The Internet Is Floored by a Woman’s Running a 5:25 Mile While Nine Months Pregnant

TikTok has given us some superhuman tricks and stunts in the past, but nothing has come close to this impressive feat: a woman’s running a mile in under five and a half minutes…while nine months pregnant. As so many athletes have shown us in the past, you should never underestimate what a pregnant woman is capable of. This mom-to-be is proving it by…well, just watch:

Amazing, right? The TikTok has been played millions of times by viewers impressed with the strength on display.

According to BuzzFeed, the woman in the video is Makenna Myler, who told the outlet she's been running almost daily throughout her pregnancy, has “been very particular with my strength training to make sure my pelvic shift and added weight didn’t/doesn’t cause any injury.” Myler added that, while discussing how her pregnancy could affect her pace, her husband “said he would give me $100 if I could break eight minutes doing the mile at nine months pregnant.” (It was for fun and motivation, not manipulation, we hope and assume.) Well, he’d better pay up, because in the video, Myler clocks in at five minutes and 25 seconds.

Myler reported that she consulted with two doctors during her pregnancy (as any pregnant woman should when it comes to exercise): The first, who had worked with “elite athletes before,” supported her frequent sprints, and the second came around after an ultrasound showed her baby  to be “perfectly healthy,” she says.

It's important to note that there's no wrong or right way to be pregnant, and all bodies are different. We aren't suggesting that this is what fitness can or should look like for anyone else. But if a woman wants to set new goals during her pregnancy, and her doctor approves, that's awesome. “Feeling capable is everything to me,” said Myler. “Running has been a big outlet for me in that way. Running during pregnancy has been a beautiful process of accepting effort and patience, not forcing anything, and letting go of pace and forced mileage.”

Her baby is due on Monday. Here's hoping labor goes lightning-fast too!
