After former NFL player Michael Oher alleged that his adoption—which was the basis of 2009 film The Blind Side—was a lie, some believed that the movie's star Sandra Bullock should have her Oscar win for the role of Oher's adoptive mother, Leigh Anne Tuohy, revoked. Others called the actress out for not making a statement about the situation.

However, many came to Bullock's defense, acknowledging that she is not to blame for the complicated situation.

After TMZ reported on the demands shared by Twitter users for the Academy to intervene and remove Bullock's award, Jezebel Editor-in-Chief Laura Bassett quote-tweeted the article, "In what world is this her fault." In a reply to Bassett, someone pointed out how ludicrous the social media comments were, writing, "That makes no sense unless she was involved in getting the rights to the story."

Others noted in separate tweets that Bullock is the last person who should receive hate for this, since she had no knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the Tuohy family and is mourning her longtime partner Bryan Randall, who died on Aug. 5 after battling ALS.

"Can we leave Sandra Bullock alone for a second? She was an actress who accepted a job for a movie that was based on a 'true story.' It’s not her fault none of it was true. Oher himself just found out he wasn't officially adopted this year. Bullock's partner just died of ALS," read a tweet.

A Twitter user wrote, "sandra bullock's partner, who she has been taking care of while he suffered from als, just died. i'm sure she will but y'all are weird for your first thought to be calling on her to make a statement about a very disturbing revelation that i highly doubt she knew anything about."

Someone advised, "Sandra Bullock has proven time and again how good she is and she just lost her partner to ALS. She didn't do anything other than play a role with information about the subjects that is now grossly different. Leave her the f--k alone and pretend the Oscar is for 'Gravity.'"

Another tweet informed enraged tweeters on exactly who they should channel their ire towards: "I'm not holding Sandra Bullock responsible for #LeighAnneTuohy ‘s treachery. She just lost her longtime partner to ALS. Hold the Tuohy’s accountable. Drag them up one side and down the other."

In a 14-page petition with the Shelby County, Tennessee probate court filed on Aug. 14, Oher claimed that after believing for years that he was legally adopted by the Tuohy family, he found out that he had been tricked into signing a document that made Sean and Leigh Anne his co-conservators, entitling them to have all powers of attorney to make decisions on his behalf.

Since then, Sean released a statement via the Daily Memphian, denying Oher's claims.

"We're devastated. It's upsetting to think we would make money off any of our children. But we're going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16," said the Tuohy patriarch.
