The Internet is Convinced That Costco Is Quietly Removing a Popular Item From the Food Court Menu—Here's What We Know

It's not at all out of the ordinary for Costco to make changes to their food court menu. Over the years, members have seen plenty of fan-favorite items come and go as the popular bulk warehouse sought to fine tune their selection in an attempt to keep things fresh for their dedicated customers. Not all changes are welcomed with open arms, however, and Costco membership holders have no problem being extremely vocal about their personal gripes pertaining to the retail giant.

Recently, just in time for the whole “new year, new me” craze, it's being rumored that Costco is making a decision to rid the popular food court menu of a long-standing beloved item. After decades of being a food court staple, Reddit users are convinced that Costco is making moves to replace their $1.49 churro with a chocolate chip cookie at the start of 2024. The change, which may come as a surprise to many, actually seems to be a smart decision considering the lack of positive feedback Costco’s churro has been receiving in recent years.

“I’m sorry, but the churros became obsolete when the 50-percent more expensive, ‘new’ and ‘much less improved,’ twisted version appeared during covid,” one customer complained in a post shared to Reddit pertaining to the lackluster food court substitution.

As it seems, Costco has already started removing churros from the menus of a handful of locations, however, some customers have reported the sugary, doughy treat still being available at a warehouse near them.

“My warehouse still had the churros yesterday,” noted one relieved customer. “I also sampled the frozen churros a couple weeks ago and they were very good. I’m just happy they’re trying new things in the food court.”

The replacement that has been rumored to be stepping in for the churro has not been officially confirmed everywhere, however, some customers have already spotted a chocolate chip cookie in place of the long-standing churro at their local warehouse. But, just like in other posts to Reddit regarding the switch up, customers were quick to praise the Costco churro of the past while trashing the current iteration of their once loved snack.

“The churro wasn't that great,” one commenter described in their experience. “30 years ago when I was a kid that was the best: fluffy, hot, and smothered in sugar and cinnamon.”

Whichever way you feel about it, it seems as though the days of the churro may definitely be numbered, so you might want to head to your local before it’s too late and the snack is gone for good. And as a pro tip, try to arrive early enough to get a taste of the first batch of the day while they are still hot and fresh.
