The Postcard Killings is the latest crime flick to claim the number one spot on Netflix’s top ten movie list. Though the serial killer thriller came out in March 2020, how has it managed to fly under our radar for so long, especially with a pretty stacked cast?

The most likely reason: The film received pretty terrible reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Postcard Killings was given a 24 percent out of 100 and a 5.8 rating out of 10 on IMDB.

So, what is the movie about? A New York City detective named Jacob Kanon (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) sets out to find the identity of his daughter’s killer after she is murdered while on her honeymoon in London. He enlists the help of a journalist, and together they try to solve the mystery. Can they catch the killer before they strike again? Or will they be too late?

The Postcard Killings currently sits at number one on Netflix, followed by The Hill (2023) at number two and The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) at number three. The remaining spots are occupied by Badland Hunters (2024), Lift (2024), The Legend of Tarzan (2016), Queenpins (2021), Dumb Money (2023), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991) and Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017).

Despite receiving poor reviews, the ensemble cast features some well-known faces, including Morgan (The Walking Dead), Dakota Fanning (I Am Sam, Man on Fire), Famke Janssen (Taken) and Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy).

Even if the Rotten Tomatoes score is low, the movie has us intrigued. After all, if the movie is the number one most watched, can that many people be wrong?
