The Intense New #1 Show on Netflix Is Like a Cross Between ‘The Flight Attendant’ & ‘The Night Of’

Kevin Hart is topping the charts with his latest Netflix series, but (disclaimer!) it’s completely different than his previous projects—like Fatherhood.

True Story just hit the streaming service last week, and it’s already claimed the number one spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched shows. (It’s currently ranked ahead of Selling Sunset, The Queen of Flow, School of Chocolate and Cowboy Bebop.)

The story follows The Kid (Hart), an up-and-coming comic who’s on a potentially career-altering tour across the U.S. When he stops in his hometown of Philadelphia, he meets up with his brother, Carlton (Wesley Snipes), for a night out on the town. Later on, The Kid is shocked to find the girl he brought home dead in his bed. Can he hide the scandal from the public? Or will he be forced to sacrifice the life he’s built for the truth?

Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “A world-famous comedian desperately searches for a way out after a night in Philadelphia with his brother threatens to sabotage more than his success.”

It’s important to note that, despite the misleading title, True Story is mainly fiction. While the plot is inspired by some real-life elements, most of the movie is dramatized for entertainment purposes. For example, Carlton isn’t inspired by Hart’s real-life brother, Robert, and the character’s on-screen banter with The Kid doesn’t reflect their real relationship.

True Story, here we come.
