This Instagrammable Pink Hotel in the U.S. Virgin Islands Was Once a A-lister Hot Spot — and It Just Reopened As a 'Caribbean Tree House Oasis'

Did we mention that it also has the dreamiest tropical decor?

With its spectacular views over the U.S. Virgin Island's St. Thomas harbor, Smith's Fancy, a guest house and art gallery opened in the 1950s. The property quickly became a lively cultural hub and the heart of the island's creative community, welcoming many A-list guests working in fashion, music, and movies.

This past spring, the property was reborn as The Pink Palm Hotel, allowing travelers again to visit its scenic location, which Smith documented for years in vivid watercolor paintings.

While the new owner, Brent Pelton, founder of American Beech Hospitality, kept many of the hotel's original features, including the property's six buildings connected by outdoor pathways, he also modernized the design by "playing with an eclectic, art deco feel by incorporating a mix of materials, colors, and patterns," Pelton told Travel + Leisure.

The result is an eclectic, 28-key hotel where no two rooms are alike and where guests can enjoy the serenity of its location, with a pool, a hot tub, outdoor showers, a restaurant and bar, and ample communal spaces for lounging and socializing. And it's all steps away from the vibrant downtown area of the island's port.

The chic design and beautiful landscaping definitely take center stage in The Pink Palm — from the pool's sundeck to the tropical-inspired wallpaper, the property's Instagram potential is unquestionable.

"The emerald-green infinity pool is surrounded by a pink, geometric terrazzo terrace, while natural elements like bamboo and rattan that feel 'of the place' are complemented by pops of velvet," Pelton explained. His team kept the existing plants and trees and added even more, so "when you're walking through, it really feels like a Caribbean tree house oasis," he added.

The rooms are awash in natural light and tropical hues and prints, while, in the bathrooms, guests are treated to plush Frette towels and toiletries by Sicilian soap and fragrance company Ortigia.

El Barsito, the hotel's poolside restaurant and bar, serves lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, focusing on meals prepared with fresh ingredients, many of which are grown on-site.

"We're a small team that takes hospitality seriously. We want to know guests' names and have them leave knowing ours," Pelton said. Guests are served breakfast in picnic baskets in their rooms daily. Those who'd like a little help planning their island vacation can reach out to the property's concierge team to arrange beach and boat excursions. Keeping up with the hotel's tradition, Pelton also plans on collaborating with local artists and galleries to "create community-driven experiences."
