A few days after going missing, Instagram influencer Alexis Sharkey, 26, was found dead in Houston on Saturday morning.

Sharkey had planned to watch movies with her friends on Saturday, but her loved ones became worried when she didn’t respond to phone calls or texts, her mother, Stacey Clark Robinault, said in an interview with KHOU-11.

Robinault shared on Facebook on Saturday that her daughter was missing. “No one has heard from her for over 24 hours and the police are involved,” she wrote. “She has lived in Houston Texas since January and that was where she was last seen. Please help us find her and bring her home safely!! We are so very desperate!!! Please share!!”

Police tell KHOU that Sharkey's nude body was discovered off of a highway by a city worker around 8:30 a.m. There were no signs of injury, and police are currently waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

Tanya Ricardo, one of Sharkey's friends, told KHOU that she spoke to her friend on Friday evening. She became worried after Sharkey didn’t return her calls or texts. “She is attached to her phone. She is a social media queen. She is an influencer. She works from her phone,” Ricardo said.

She further told KHOU that friends also became more worried when they realized Sharkey hadn’t posted on social media for more than 12 hours. No one answered the door at the apartment that Sharkey shared with her husband of one year, Tom Sharkey.

Ricardo told KHOU that Alexis and her husband had been having issues. “Recently, she opened up to us about it and divorce was being filed,” she said. “She was a very private person. She didn’t share a lot about what was going on at home.”

Robinault later posted about her daughter’s death on Facebook. “It’s with deeply broken hearts that Mike and I want to let you all know that Lexi’s body has been found,” she wrote alongside photos of her daughter. “We cannot begin to thank you all for your love and the kind words you’ve extended to our family! Please give us this time to grieve this incredible loss to our family and this world!!! We will miss you, Love!!!!”

Tom also shared the news on Facebook, writing, “My world! My everything! I’m so lost right now! My one and only!”

Robinault told ABC 13 that she believes her daughter was murdered. "I do believe she [Sharkey] was murdered. Yes. From what I've been able to gather as well as a mother's gut. I learned very young as a mom to trust my gut. It's not let me down," she said. "It's just painful for someone so bright and having so much to offer...just to be gone, to be snuffed out."

Alexis’ last Instagram post was from Tulum, Mexico, a place she called “magical.”
