Instagram Daredevil Known for Scaling Skyscrapers Dies After Falling From Building in Hong Kong

An Instagram daredevil known for free-climbing skyscrapers died last week after falling from a building in Hong Kong.

Authorities discovered the body of Remi Lucidi, who went by @remnigma on Instagram, at the base of the upscale Tregunter Tower complex on the evening of July 27. His body was on the ground floor at the bottom of a 721-foot drop.

Paramedics recovered Lucidi’s French ID, in addition to his camera which contained footage of him engaging in a variety of extreme sports. It’s unclear if he was recording at the time of his death.

According to reports, Lucidi first turned up at the complex around 6 p.m. on Thursday evening. He told the doorman that he was visiting a friend on the 40th floor, but by the time the doorman uncovered the ruse, Lucidi had already made his way into an elevator. He was next seen on security footage exiting the elevator on the 49th floor.

Further security footage captured him on a staircase leading to one of the highest levels. A security guard later found that a locked door on that floor, which led to the roof, had been tampered with. Lucidi was last seen at around 7:30, when he knocked on the window of the 68th floor penthouse. It startled the apartment’s maid, who immediately called police.

However, by the time help arrived Lucidi had already fallen to his death.

An anonymous source reported the situation to The South China Morning Post. “It is possible that he got trapped outside the penthouse while practicing an extreme sport in the building, and he knocked on the window for help, but accidentally fell to his death," they said.

Lucidi, who began scaling skyscrapers in 2016, turned 30 in February. In a photo from Bulgaria on July 16, he can be seen high above the ground, hanging from a silo without a harness.

“Life is too short to chase unicorns,” Lucidi captioned the post.
