On the evening of November 5, the spotlight on New York City’s performing arts world moved a bit further east than Broadway. That’s because New York Stage and Film held its annual gala at the Plaza Hotel, this year in honor of Emmy, Tony, and Grammy winner Billy Porter and Sarah Kate Ellis, the president and CEO of GLAAD.
The evening began with a reception for gala committee chairs (a group that includes Annaleigh Ashford, Kristin Chenoweth, Michael R. Jackson, Tony Kushner, and George C. Wolfe.) and artists before opening for cocktails, a seated dinner, and tribute performances from Mia Pak, Adina Verson, J. Harrison Ghee, Chuck Cooper, Lillias White, and more.
Guests like Melissa Etheridge, Tony Shalhoub, Wilson Cruz, David Burtka were on hand to support NYSAF, a non-profit that works with artists to develop new stories for theater, film, and beyond, and is known for its annual Summer Season, held in the Hudson Valley, which has been an integral part to the artistic development of so many creators.
