Inside the Royal Family's Brand New Christmas Plans

The royal family's Christmas plans were changed at the last minute due to rising Covid cases in the United Kingdom—which means they aren't heading to Sandringham. (Which also means they won't be doing their traditional Christmas walk.)

As royal reporter Rebecca English tweeted, “Her Majesty has decided to celebrate Christmas at Windsor and will not travel to Sandringham. The decision was a personal one after careful consideration and reflects a precautionary approach.”

However! The Queen is expected to spend Christmas at Windsor with Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, and they'll be joined by Prince William and Kate Middleton. Per royal reporter Omid Scobie, "Clarence House confirm that Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall will be amongst the royal family members joining the Queen at Windsor Castle on Christmas Day. They’re expected to be joined by the Wessexes, Cambridges and Yorks."

Princess Anne won't be joining the family for their Christmas festivities due to the fact that she's self-isolating with her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, who tested positive for coronavirus.

Ahead of canceling the Sandringham trip, royal expert Kerene Barefield told Us Weekly that “I understand from sources that there could be a Christmas at Windsor this year, if things change. So, I think close aides are kind of looking at an alternative Christmas and how that would look at Windsor instead of everyone going to Sandringham. What I understand from sources is that she won’t be spending it alone, but it might be just slimmed down even further.”

It remains to be seen if the royals will make a ~low-key public appearance~ from Windsor, or remain isolated, but stay tuned tomorrow if you're curious!
