Inside The Prince's Trust Star-Studded 2023 Gala
The stars were out last night at Casa Cipriani in downtown Manhattan to celebrate and fundraise for King Charles's charity, The Prince's Trust. Hosted by Edward Enninful (in person) and Lionel Richie (virtually), The Prince's Trust Global Gala raised more than $1.7 million for charity and their work in supporting young people.
Many of those aided by the Prince's Trust spoke during the evening, including actor Idris Elba, who said, "One thing The Prince’s Trust gave me was confidence. It gave me the confidence to believe in what I do, who I am and what I can be."
Charlotte Mensah, a hairstylist who received a grant from the Prince's Trust that eventually led her to launch her own salon, read a letter from the British king. "His Majesty couldn’t be with us this evening — I know he wanted to be," Mensah said. She joked, "He has something next week!"
The letter from Charles began, "I cannot tell you how sorry I am not to be with you in person this evening." He also said his charity, "I am thrilled to say that it has now worked with over 1 million young people, helping them to start careers, launch businesses and reengage with education. I am enormously inspired by the determination and commitment of young people."
