Inside Otherland's First-Ever Store in New York City Designed by Sasha Bikoff

Anyone who visits or lives in the New York City area now has the chance to experience cult-favorite candle brand Otherland in a whole new way at its recently-opened, first-ever flagship store. Designed by Sasha Bikoff, the colorful shop perfectly embodies the candle brand and is a must-visit for candle enthusiasts and novices alike.
Otherland co-founder Abigail Cook Stone teamed up with Bikoff to bring the store (located in SoHo at 454 W Broadway) to life. They drew inspiration from the candles themselves—the artwork on the vessels, the colors, the scents, and the collection themes. “The process really started with our display cases and how we wanted the candles to live in the space as pieces of sculptural art,” Bikoff explains. “From there, we further developed the design—playing off the candy colors, the iridescent tiles, the melted pastel wallpaper (an homage to melted wax), and the various lighting fixtures from Murano, Italy, to handmade ceramic pendants from an artist in Tel Aviv, Israel.”
Other standout elements include a gold, disco-like mirror from Mirrors by Lina, a 2021 Etsy Design Awards finalist, and millwork inspired by the brand’s graphics. “There is a sense of relaxed glamour to Otherland,” Bikoff gushes. “Although it’s approachable to the consumer, it’s also got an edge—that’s why we threw in a little bit of gold Donghia wallpaper by the checkout.”
Not only is the store fully stocked with candles, but shoppers can also find accessories like USB lighters, matchboxes, wick trimmers, tote bags, hats, scrunchies, sweatshirts, and more. Plus, the brand plans to use the space to host events and exclusive store moments.
