Hey, she did say her lucky color is green.

Jennifer Lopez's net worth is thanks to a lot of hard work that continues today.

J.Lo went from a Fly Girl to flying first class through a combination of hard work and a little luck. The singer, dancer, actress, producer, designer and all-around entertainment juggernaut has amassed so much wealth throughout her career that her net worth may be matched only by the number of tabloid headlines she's generated since breaking into stardom in 1997.

However, that hard work comes at a price: J.Lo once revealed that she actually suffered a mental health crisis in 2001 from her schedule while filming Enough. "There was a time when I was very overworked and I was doing music and movies and so many things," she explained. "I was suffering from a lack of sleep. And I did have a kind of nervous breakdown. I froze up on a set. Well, not on a set, but in my trailer. I was like, 'I don't want to move. I don't want to talk. I don't want to do anything'... Yeah. I did. I had a nervous breakdown."

Since then, though, Lopez has flourished on stages and screens around the world. Find out Jennifer Lopez's net worth from her movie and television career, American Idol, music and business ventures, her 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show performance and more!

What is Jennifer Lopez's net worth in 2023?

Jennifer Lopez's net worth is estimated to be a whopping $150 million, netting an average of $40 million per year.

How did Jennifer Lopez get famous?

A natural athlete, Lopez competed in track on a national level growing up, as well as participating in gymnastics and on her high school softball team. Her first bit part came in her senior year of high school when she appeared in the 1986 indie film My Little Girl and was bit by the acting bug. The Bronx native attended one semester at Baruch College before dropping out to pursue a career as a dancer and actress.

Lopez appeared in regional productions of musicals Oklahoma! and Jesus Christ Superstar (starring as Mary Magdalene!) followed by a touring production of Golden Musicals of Broadway in Europe. Dissatisfied at being the only member of the production's chorus to never get a solo, Lopez left the show to became a choreographer, dancer and singer for the Japanese show Synchronicity.

Some of Lopez's dance career was as much luck as it was hard work: In 1991, Lopez was a backup dancer for New Kids on the Block, performing with them on tour as well as at that year's American Music Awards. During that time, she also auditioned for a role as a Fly Girl dancer on In Living Color. She made it to the finals, but was only cast after the dancer who'd originally won the slot was unable to take the job and backed out. During her tenure as a Fly Girl, Lopez was also briefly a backup dancer for Janet Jackson (you can see her in the video for "That's the Way Love Goes"). In 1993, Lopez left In Living Color to pursue acting full-time.

The title role of slain Tejano singer Selena in 1997 made Lopez a household name and a $1 million salary that made her the highest-paid Latina actress in history. Nava directed Selena but Lopez reportedly still had to go through a grueling audition process before being cast as the iconic chanteuse, almost losing the role to Danielle Camastra.

Lopez followed with Anaconda in 1997 alongside Jon Voight and Ice Cube, then U-Turn with Sean Penn and Billy Bob Thornton.

She had a star turn and sizzling chemistry with co-star George Clooney in Steven Soderbergh's Out of Sight in 1998.

The same year, she voiced Azteca in Antz.

After a brief reprieve from film to focus on her burgeoning music career, Lopez returned to the big screen in the psychological thriller The Cell in 2000, followed by the relatively under-the-radar Angel Eyes and hit The Wedding Planner in 2001.

Enough hit theaters in 2002, and Lopez's turn as a domestic violence survivor who gets revenge on her abusive ex became a cult favorite (though its box office at the time was middling).

Her Cinderella-inspired role in Maid in Manhattan was a hit, earning $154.9 million on a $55 million budget, making it the highest-grossing film of her career.

The following year was a tough one for Lopez. She co-starred with offscreen beau Ben Affleck in Gigli, which was such a critical and commercial bomb that it became a punchline for several years: The "Bennifer" star vehicle only earned $7.3 million worldwide on a $54 million budget. They each followed up with Jersey Girl in 2004, which was also a box-office disappointment. Lopez bounced back alongside Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon in Shall We Dance, earning $170 million on a $50 million budget.

In 2005, Lopez appeared in An Unfinished Life alongside heavy-hitters Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman, but the film didn't do well at the box office, making less than $750,000 on a $30 million budget. She had a major hit with Monster In Law, reportedly earning $15 million to star alongside Jane Fonda in the romcom.

Lopez and then-husband Marc Anthony co-starred in El Cantante in 2006, a biopic of salsa singer Hector LaVoe, then in Bordertown with Martin Sheen. Neither did blockbuster numbers, with the latter going straight to video.

Lopez took a break from film until 2011, when she starred in the ensemble comedy What to Expect When You're Expecting, which earned $84 million on a $40 million budget. Lopez voiced Shira in Ice Age: Continental Drift, which made a whopping $877 million in 2012, then followed with 2013's Parker alongside Jason Statham, which had modest returns.

In 2015, Lopez starred in the pulpy The Boy Next Door, filmed on a small $4 million budget and earning $52 million globally. The same year, Lopez starred alongside Viola Davis in the independent drama Lila & Eve and voiced a character in the animated feature Home. In 2016, Lopez reprised the role of Shira for Ice Age: Collision Course, which brought in $409 million worldwide.

J.Lo transitioned to television as well, starring in Shades of Blue with Ray Liotta from 2016 to 2018.

The end of the 2010s brought big box office numbers back for Lopez: Second Act made $72 million on a $16 million budget in 2018, and Lopez's turn as stripper Ramona in Hustlers in 2019 raked in major moolah with $158 million on a $20 million budget (plus some serious critical acclaim).

How much did Jennifer Lopez make for Hustlers?

Would you believe zilch? As she revealed to GQ in 2019, the year that movie came out, "I didn't get paid a whole bunch of money for Hustlers. I did it for free and produced it." Why work without pay? "I do what I love," she explained.

Hopefully, though, she negotiated some sort of back-end deal for herself in case the movie performed well at the box office—because it did, to the tune of $157 million in box office grosses on a $20 million budget.

How much did Jennifer Lopez make selling photos to PEOPLE?

Lopez revealed that when she and Anthony welcomed their twins, Max and Emme, in 2008, she made a cool $6 million selling the first photos of the babies to PEOPLE. "I think one of the reasons that the price went so high is that we didn't want to do it for so long," she said. "We weren't into it. I was like, 'No, I don't really want to. No. No way.' But then it got to the point that you go, 'Well, now you're being stupid with these offers … I thought I can set them up. I can put this away just for them.'" Lopez put some of the cash away for the twins and gave a portion of the proceeds to charity.

How much did Jennifer Lopez make judging American Idol?

Lopez judged American Idol starting in Season 10 with a rumored salary of $12 million. She returned for Season 11 with a raise to $15 million. She was replaced with Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey for Season 12, but returned for Seasons 13, 14 and 15 with a reported salary of $17.5 million each.

Lopez said that many people urged her not to judge American Idol, but she took the gig because she wanted to show that she wasn't just a diva, but that she was a "real, caring person that is actually nice."

“It was a big turning point in my career. Everybody was like: ‘Don’t do this. Your career will be over, and they won’t offer you any movies. They’ll think you’re a joke as an artist,’" she recalled to USA Today in 2019. "And I was like, ‘The truth is, I’m not getting offered a whole bunch of movies, so what are they not going to offer me?’”

Lopez was also a judge on and executive producer of World Of Dance, which had great ratings for its May 2017 premiere.

Jennifer Lopez has a huge pop music career

Lopez debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her first single ever, "If You Had My Love," in May 1999, becoming the first artist since Britney Spears to do so. Her debut album, On the 6, sold more than 10 million copies worldwide (3 million of those in the United States), spawning hits "Waiting for Tonight," "No Me Ames," "Feelin' So Good" and "Let's Get Loud."

Lopez's follow-up, J.Lo, dropped in 2001 while The Wedding Planner hit theaters and made Lopez the first-ever entertainer to have a simultaneous No. 1 movie and album. The album, spawned by singles "Love Don't Cost a Thing," "Play," "Ain't It Funny," "I'm Real" and the "I'm Real (Murder Remix)" sold 4 million copies in the United States, making it her most commercially successful album domestically. Lopez said she had more creative control over J.Lo than she did with On the 6, and it clearly served her well. A year after J.Lo's release, she dropped an album of remixes, J to tha L-O! The Remixes.

On Nov. 19, 2002, Lopez dropped her third album, This Is Me...Then, largely inspired by her then-romance with Affleck. It spawned a major hit with her single "Jenny From the Block," which featured Affleck in the accompanying music video. The album sold 6 million copies globally.

Rebirth came in 2005. It wasn't as commercially successful as Lopez's prior musical efforts, but still went double platinum and spawned the hit single "Get Right."

Lopez released the Spanish-language album Como Ama una Mujer in 2007, selling better in Latin America than in the United States. She toured with then-husband Anthony to promote the project, pulling in $13.8 million from 17 performances.

Later that year, Lopez dropped Brave. It was her first album to miss the Billboard Hot 100 and sold only 650,000 copies worldwide at the time of its release, bolstered by singles "Do It Well" and "Hold It Don't Drop It." Following the disappointing sales, Lopez's contract with Epic Records ended and she moved to Island Records.

Love? was Lopez's debut album for Island Records, released in 2011. It was a comeback record for Lopez, and singles "On the Floor" (featuring Pitbull), "Papi" and "I'm Into You" (featuring Lil Wayne) brought a return to commercial success, selling more than 453,000 copies worldwide.

J.Lo dropped her first greatest hits album, Dance Again... The Hits, spawned by the single "Dance Again" featuring Pitbull. Check out her then-beau Casper Smart in the video:

Lopez's most recent studio album is A.K.A., released in 2014. Its sales were disappointing, but Lopez generated buzz with singles "Booty" (featuring Iggy Azalea), "First Love" and "I Luh Ya Papi." However, the same year she, Pitbull and Claudia Leitte collaborated on "We Are One (Ole Ola)" for the World Cup, which was a smash. Lopez earned $37 million in 2014 alone.

Lopez has since released several singles, some in Spanish.

Lopez went on a world tour for her 50th birthday in 2019. The jaunt, called the It's My Party Tour, made $54.7 million from 38 shows. She also had blockbuster ticket sales for her Las Vegas residency, All I Have, grossed over $100 million in ticket sales from early 2016 to late 2018.

In February 2020, Lopez and Shakira teamed up for a killer Super Bowl Halftime Show.

How much does Jennifer Lopez's Glow by JLo make?

Lopez's first foray into fragrance was the now-iconic Glow by JLo. Lopez's signature scent was an instant hit and became the biggest celebrity fragrance ever, with sales surpassing $2 billion; J.Lo was credited with popularizing celebrity fragrances as a whole in the early 2000s. Lopez went on to release 17 more fragrances.

In 2001, Lopez channeled the success of Glow into her J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez brand, broadening her horizons from scents to clothing, accessories, jewelry, watches and bedding, as well as The J.Lo Girls Collection. Her collection had $175 million in sales by 2003. She relaunched the brand in 2010 for an exclusive deal with Kohl's.

In April 2018, Lopez released a limited-edition cosmetic line with Inglot, and in 2021 launched her skincare line, J.Lo Beauty. She also has brand partnerships with Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) and Giuseppe Zanotti.

What books has Jennifer Lopez written?

Lopez authored the memoir True Love, released in November 2014. The tome was a smash, reaching No. 7 on The New York Times Best Seller list. and No. 5 on the Hardcover non-fiction list. Lopez revealed she began writing her book while on tour as a diary following her divorce from Anthony. The book's recurring themes are learning to love one's self and put yourself first.

"I feel like, when we're kids, you're sold into this fairy tale of what love is," Lopez told TODAY. "That Prince Charming's gonna come along and save you and you're gonna live happily ever after. They're gonna rescue me from the Bronx, and we're gonna go off and live in a castle somewhere and it's gonna be awesome. He's gonna love me forever, and I'm gonna love him forever, and it's gonna be real easy. And it's so different than that."

Did Jennifer Lopez own a restaurant?

In 2002, Lopez opened her own restaurant, Madre's, which served Latin cuisine. Though celebrity restaurants often don't last long (RIP to Britney Spears' NYLA and Jessica Biel's Au Fudge!), Lopez's eatery lasted eight years, a virtual century compared with similar efforts from her peers. It closed in 2008.

What's in Jennifer Lopez's real estate portfolio?

She may be Jenny from the Block, but she lives pretty far from the Bronx now. Lopez's real estate includes a swanky penthouse in Manhattan as well as properties in Miami and Los Angeles.

In 2017, Lopez put her 6,500-square foot apartment at the exclusive Whitman building in New York City on the market for $24.99 million. The apartment boasted four bedrooms and six bathrooms, 3,000 square feet of outdoor space and views of Madison Square Park.

Lopez bought an eight-bedroom mansion in the Hamptons for $10 million in 2013, complete with a pool, theater and sauna.

She bought a home in Bel Air in 2016 for $28 million. Clocking in at 13,932-square feet, the mansion has multiple living spaces, seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms (who pees this much?!), a pool, a hot tub and a home theater.

In August 2020, Lopez and then-fiancee Alex Rodriguez purchased a home in the ultra-exclusive Star Island neighborhood in Miami for $32.5 million, complete with an elevator and 15,000 square feet of waterfront views. It's unclear who will get the property following their split, or if they'll simply opt to sell.
