Inside the Glamorous Montecito Ranch Where Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger Got Married

On June 8, Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger wed on a beautiful summer day in Montecito. Their venue of choice? None other than the luxurious San Ysidro Ranch.

The property, tucked away in the lower foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains, is rich in history: Winston Churchill, Audrey Hepburn, Bing Crosby, and Lucille Ball have all been guests. Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier got married there, and John Huston finished his script for The African Queen during his stay.

It was also, famously, the honeymoon locale for John and Jackie Kennedy in 1953. Their stone cottage getaway, now aptly called “the Kennedy Cottage” has a gated entrance, classic french doors, a sculpture courtyard, and a deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

San Ysidro Ranch is set on a sprawling 500 acres with an abundance of flora: olive, orange, eucalyptus, lemon, pepper and jacaranda trees, gardens filled with jasmine, magnolias, roses and lavender.

Inside its 41 bungalows, rustic-chic decor abounds: amidst antique furniture and Persian rugs, guests can curl up in front of fireplace or in a four-poster canopy bed. Each one has its own private garden.

And if you want to have a party? A perfect spot would be the sycamore-lined Upper Estate Lawn, or the Lower Gardens, with its panoramic view of the mountains. There will be plenty of wine on hand: the property’s underground wine cellar holds 12,000 bottles.

San Ysidro Ranch, like much of Montecito, was damaged in the mudslides after the Thomas Fire in 2018. It just reopened this spring after a 15-month renovation, which was challenging due to the delicate and historic structures on the property: the 1825 Old Abode Cottage, for example, has landmark status. Toothbrushes were used to scrub the mud from its exterior so as to avoid damaging the stucco, wood, and adobe.

Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger aren’t the only famous couple to marry there in recent years: it’s rumored that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin had their small ceremony in 2003, and Lily Aldridge and Caleb Followill hosted their nuptials on the grounds as well. Talk about a celebrity-friendly California hideaway.
