The Queen's casket has reached Buckingham Palace, the royal residence of the monarchy in London. The arrival was met by members of the royal family including King Charles III, Queen Camilla Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. All of the Queen's children and grandchildren, many with their spouses, were also in attendance.

Since 1837, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Buckingham Palace has been the main home of the British Royal Family. Looking at the spectacular exterior, it's easy to see how the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip could have worked and lived there for so long (and why Queen Victoria insisted on changing its name from the more humble Buckingham "House"). But simply viewing the palace from the outside hardly does it justice, as the interiors are packed with incredible royal history.

The balcony of Buckingham Palace is one of the most iconic in Europe. The first recorded Royal balcony appearance was Queen Victoria's in 1851, when the monarch greeted the public to mark the opening of the Great Exhibition.

While the palace serves as the administrative center for the daily business of the monarchy, it remains very much a family home. The Queen gave birth to Prince Charles and Prince Andrew at the Palace, and countless christenings and royal weddings have taken place on site (most recently, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding).

Queen Elizabeth's official state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19. She will be buried at St. George's Chapel shortly after.
