Inside the new $70 million Magic practice facility in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — On Wednesday, the Orlando Magic unveiled a brand new 130,000-square-foot practice facility that will serve as the official training site for the team.
The organization held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local leaders and several high-ranking team officials, including chairman Dan DeVos, CEO Alex Martins and president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman among others.
Located just one block from Amway Center, where the team plays its home games, the $70 million facility opens just in time for the 2022-23 season. The team will begin practicing in the building in the coming days with training camp set to begin on Sept. 27.
“We did our research and toured the other facilities in the league and some NFL facilities,” Martins said. “I think everything that our players need to prepare, rehab, recoup and keep them from getting injured are here. It is everything that we would have hoped for and more.”

The AdventHealth Training Facility includes two full-sized courts and two additional shooting goals for 21,000 square feet of room for practice and other related on-court activities; the team currently has 6,000 square feet of court space in the Amway Center.
The building offers leading training and recovery technologies, including an altitude chamber and a hydro area with hot and cold plunges. Players will also have the opportunity to utilize the family room, featuring a nutrition bar and full kitchen.
The players’ expansive locker room features walk-in lockers with high-end finishes. Nearby the locker room, players have the opportunity to unwind and recover with a floating pod, nap rooms and massage suites. It is also equipped with a barber shop
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. said. “I’ve been to all of the practice facilities of other NBA teams but when I came in here, it was like, ‘Man!’ Everything we need is here: Pool, smoothie station, parking facility, etc. I feel like it is everything we need, for sure.”

The practice courts also feature an elevated viewing area and observation balconies. Team personnel can also view the courts from their respective offices.

The court area is equipped with high-tech cameras that can give the coaching staff and players a look at practices and other related activities from above in film sessions.

Located just off of the practice court, the indoor training space includes a force plate, traditional weight racks, Keiser strength machines and a medicine ball wall among other amenities.

The training space also features an incline ramp and stairs.
Altitude Chamber

The chamber helps players train at different altitude levels. Training at a higher elevation level will increase the number of red blood cells in the body, which then sends more oxygen to the muscles. The Magic are the first team to have a custom-built, simulated altitude chamber in their facility.

The outdoor lap pool will give players the opportunity to swim for cardio.

The hydro area features hot and cold plunges for recovery after workouts. Within this space, there is a small pool that will include an underwater treadmill.

The standing CT scan provides images of pressure points in the foot, ankle and hips. It is the first machine in the Central Florida area.

The 6,000-square-foot team living room features a nutrition bar and a full kitchen with a full cooking staff. Players can also utilize an outdoor dining patio that overlooks the downtown Orlando skyline.
