Industry Moves: March 2019

March 27, 2019: After leading the fashion label he co-founded 22 years ago, Andrew Rosen is set to pass on his role as CEO of Theory to chief operating officer Dinesh Tandon. The change is effective April 1, after which Rosen will become an adviser to the firm. Tandon joined Theory in 2013, serving as CEO of the Greater China and Southeast Asia market. In 2017, he was named chief operating officer and relocated from Hong Kong to the company’s global headquarters in New York.

March 26, 2019: J.C. Penney has tapped a new CFO following the position’s nearly six-month vacancy. Starting April 8, Bill Wafford will serve as the company’s financial chief as well as take on the role of executive vice president. He previously worked as the CFO of Vitamin Shoppe since last June and succeeds Michael Fung, who will remain at the firm in an interim capacity through the end of April.

March 25, 2019: Following his departure from Neiman Marcus, Ken Downing has been named the new chief creative officer at retail and entertainment giant Triple Five Group, known for its development of shopping centers including West Edmonton Mall, the Mall of America and the new American Dream to open this year in East Rutherford, N.J. Downing’s appointment comes after a 28-year tenure at Neiman Marcus, where he served as its SVP and fashion director.

March 22, 2019: According to FN’s sister publication WWD, Ken Downing, SVP and fashion director of Neiman Marcus, is leaving the luxury department store on March 29. Since he joined the company in 1990, Downing has held several roles across public relations and fashion before landing his most recent role in 2006. Neiman Marcus has not yet announced or confirmed the news.

March 22, 2019: Hibbett Sports Inc. has announced the retirement of president and CEO Jeff Rosenthal. The company said its board of directors will commence a search process to identify its next CEO, and Rosenthal will remain in his post capacity until a successor is named. He will also assist the board with the search and the execution of the transition — after which he will continue to serve as a member of the board. Rosenthal had held Hibbett’s top post for nine years but had been with the company for over 21 years in various roles.

March 21, 2019: Sequential Brands Group-owned basketball brand And1 has added two executives to its team, whose résumés both boast time at Nike. John Scipio has assumed the GM role, and Christian Deaton is now the senior VP of product and merchandising.

March 19, 2019: Tom Ford has been elected chairman of the CFDA, reports FN’s sister publication WWD. The designer’s appointment was approved by the board of directors, with his start date moved up to June 2019. He succeeds Diane von Furstenberg, who was named president in 2006 and became chairwoman in 2015.

March 18, 2019: Marco Agnolin will leave his role as CEO at Diesel on March 28. The executive joined the company in January 2018, succeeding Alessandro Bogliolo, who exited in October 2017. Agnolin’s successor has yet to be named, and he is expected to stay on the Diesel board “to guarantee the completion of planned activities.”

March 18, 2019: Under Armour has named 20-year footwear and apparel veteran Kasey Jarvis as its chief design officer. The executive will replace Dave Dombrow, who left the company this month, and report to chief product officer Kevin Eskridge. He joins the company in April after serving as vice president of product and design for Black Diamond Equipment.

March 14, 2019: According to FN’s sister publication WWD, Tom Ford has been tapped to head the CFDA following news that Diane von Furstenberg is ready to step down from the post. The change could reportedly happen as soon as Tuesday, when the board meets to vote on Ford’s nomination. Furstenberg has served as the face of the organization for 13 years, working closely with president and CEO Steven Kolb, who joined in 2005.

March 12, 2019: Johnston & Murphy, a division of Genesco Inc.,  has promoted Heather Marsh to the post of VP of customer experience, with oversight responsibility for all retail operations including store operations and e-commerce, as well as partnering with the real estate team to set and execute the brand’s real estate strategy. Marsh, a 15-year veteran of Johnston & Murphy, was most recently VP of of e-commerce. The brand has also promoted Deanna Grubbs, who joined the brand in 1999, to VP of apparel product development, focusing on the apparel category’s growth at retail and expansion into wholesale channels. Most recently she served as director of retail merchandising.

March 1, 2019: Stephane Jaspar has left his role as chief marketing officer of Stella McCartney. He joined the brand in 2003, two years after the designer launched her eponymous fashion house as a 50-50 partnership with the group now known as Kering. Jaspar had worked closely with McCartney and other executives who ran the label, including current president and CEO Frederick Lukoff.
