Apr. 29—ROCHESTER — A celebration of Indigenous artistry Sunday opened a new exhibit at the Rochester Art Center.

An exhibit featuring work by 29 mid-century and contemporary Native artists will be on display at the contemporary art museum through July 21.

The show, "Dreaming Our Futures: Ojibwe and Očhéthi Šakówiŋ Artists and Knowledge Keepers" comes to Rochester directly from its premier exhibition at the Katherine E. Nash Gallery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

To celebrate the exhibit, the Rochester Art Center held a daylong celebration of Native culture on Sunday, April 28, 2024. The event included a driving rhythmic performance by the Battle River Singers dance performances of jingle dress dancers and a local Native dancer. Kids attending enjoyed a reading of "Bowwow Powwow." More than 300 people attended the event.
