In Paris, Jessica Alba Talks About Her Fave Emojis, Packing Her Own Suitcase, and Her First Fashion Show

She runs a billion dollar business and stars in movies. But Jessica Alba still packs her own suitcases, keeps a photo of her kids as her smart phone background, and loves a good pair of new boots. So when we ran into her at the Longchamp flagship opening in Paris, we were torn: should we trade Hollywood gossip…or swap tips on making life easier as a working mom? Good news: here’s a little of both.
Yahoo Style: You’re a Snapchat addict. What’s your most-used Emoji?
It’s a tie between the dancing girl in the red dress and the puff of air and the squirt. I use those when I can’t talk because I’m working out. Those are exercise emoji!
That explains why I’ve never used them. So Longchamp makes gorgeous luggage, and you travel constantly for work. Any packing hacks?
Go to the Container Store. Get those bags that reduce the space between all your stuff. It’s not exactly a vacuum pack but the effect is the same. That stuff is genius. And I like putting everything on hangers before it goes in the suitcase, so when I get to the hotel or the house where I’m staying, I can just pull up the clothes and hang them right away. It makes a big difference; I feel so much more organized when I do that.
I’m surprised you don’t ship your clothes…
I should. I know. But I’m busy! I’ve got work. I’ve got kids. And I like to pack myself because then I know what I have when I’m traveling.
What about liquids? I can’t go anywhere without the Honest Company Body Oil.
Thank you! It’s so good, isn’t it? So for liquids, I double bag them in zip lock baggies and pack them in the [checked] suitcase. That’s the easy way.
You’ve been coming to Fashion Weeks around the world. Which was your first?
I modeled in catalogs as a kid so I could pay for my headshots because I wanted to be an actress, and headshots are expensive. So somehow, I ended up in an Escada fashion show when I was twelve. It was in LA, I wore a shirt and no pants, and I was carrying a baby. It was absurd. And my dad was so, so angry. He was like, “She’s twelve. She’s wearing nothing.” It was a big deal. He was very mad.How does he feel when you wear underwear in photos now?[Laughing] I think he’s over it. And thankfully I’m not 12 anymore!
