Imaginary Wish List: Diana Vreeland

”There’s only one very good life and that’s the life you know you want and you make it yourself,” Diana Vreeland once said. She certainly stuck by her own dictum. Vreeland—who worked at Harper’s Bazaar before becoming editor-in-chief of American Vogue—led a life full of fantasy: her close friends included André Leon Talley, Richard Avedon (who originally refused to work with her as she repeatedly called him ”Aberdeen”) and Yves Saint Laurent, to name but a few. With a French mother and a British father, Vreeland fused English eclecticism with Parisian elegance to create a singular style that was instantly recognisable. Turbans, jewel-toned silks and loud prints were combined with the classic white Oxford shirt and impeccable tailoring, always finished with statement earrings. In honour of Diana Vreeland’s inimitable clothes and character, here’s what we imagine she might put in her (online) shopping bag now.
