Illinois Rescue Takes in Precious Pit Bull Abandoned Overnight and the Video Is Heartwarming

Unfortunately, many pets are abandoned daily by their owners due to various reasons; however, the majority are bully breeds, such as pit bulls, American bullies, and Stafford Terriers. Thankfully, there are many good-hearted Samatarians out there and rescue organizations that advocate for these lovely animals.

The rescue organization NAWSHumaneSocietyMokena in Mokena, Illinois, is one of these organizations and shared a video, posted on October 6, of their newest addition, an abandoned pit bull they named Pop Tart, who was tied to a bench. Let's get to know Pop Tart!

Aw, look at him! He's so happy someone rescued him!

What a rough start to National Pit Bull Awareness Month!

It breaks my heart that his owner would just abandon him like that. This is how my pit bull was found as well.

So sad!

Abandoned pit bulls that end up in shelters often face a challenging and uncertain future.

First of all, it is unknown why he got abandoned, but pit bulls are often subject to breed-specific stereotypes and misconceptions, which can make it harder for them to find homes. Some people falsely believe that they are inherently aggressive or dangerous, which can lead to discrimination.

He's such a sweet boy.

Some owners may not fully understand the needs and characteristics of pit bulls, leading to difficulties in training and socialization. This can result in owners surrendering their dogs and sometimes tying them to a pole or bench instead of bringing them to shelters.

At least Pop Tart was tied outside the shelter, so the staff could find him.

That's why dog rescue organizations, such as this one, play a critical role in rescuing and rehoming abandoned or neglected pit bulls and other breeds.

When a pit bull is abandoned or surrendered to a shelter, the staff typically assesses the dog's health, behavior, and temperament. This initial evaluation helps determine the dog's needs and how it can be best cared for, as they might have suffered from neglect, abuse, or trauma, so rehabilitation and socialization are often necessary to prepare them for adoption.

However, it looks like Pop Tart isn't scared or aggressive and is quite the social butterfly.

That being said, rescue organizations work diligently to find suitable forever homes for their rescued dogs. They often have an adoption process that includes application forms, interviews, and home checks to ensure that the dogs are placed in loving, responsible homes.

Hopefully, Pop Tart will find his new forever home soon.
