Illinois Cats Who've Been at the Shelter Over 100 Days Are Ready to Find Homes in the New Year

If you've spent much time on the feline side of the Internet, you've seen a video or two of the universal feline distribution system in action. Still, not everyone is lucky enough to be blessed by this mysterious power. Plenty of people out there are still looking for a pet cat to call their very own, and animal shelters are the perfect places to start the search.

For folks living near Pekin, Illinois, the Tazewell Animal Protective Society (AKA TAPS) no-kill animal shelter is a potential adopter's dream come true. The shelter is home to dogs and cats of all ages who are looking for their purr-fect homes, though some animals tend to wait a lot longer then others.

In a December 28 TikTok video, TAPS shared several of their longest resident felines. Specifically, this video featured those who have been there 100 days and longer. As sad as it is to see how long these babies, wait, it's also a relief to see they're in such good hands until the right people come along..

Aww! These kitties are so beautiful, each in their own ways, and I have zero doubt that they have compatible owners waiting just for them. It's just a matter of helping them find one another! There are many eager commenters on this video who seem interested in visiting these adoptable felines, but as @tapspekinil reminded viewers, doing research before bringing home a rescued pet is essential for everyone's well-being.

Whether it's sharing an animal shelter's TikTok video or actually volunteering at a humane society, you never know what small action will make the biggest difference in an animal's life. For example, someone who sees your repost of the video could end up adopting one of these precious shelter cats!

Shelter Cats Come in a Variety of Sizes, Ages, and Breeds

Whether you have your eye on a handsome tuxedo cat like Hendrix or a sweet tabby cat like Petite (what a cute name for a cat!), you don't need to look to Illinois for a pet unless you actually live there. Animal shelters in all 50 states are busy and crowded, and saving a local life means just as much as saving the life of a shelter animal from a place far away.

No matter where you adopt from or whether you bring home a new kitten or adult cat, it's important to keep in mind that your fur baby will need time to adjust and decompress. In fact, you may not see much of your new cat for the first few days, but once they start to feel safe enough to show themselves, you can start building trust and routines.
