Arguably the best thing about Ikea, besides walking out with 100 things I don't need, is taking a pit stop at the food court and filling up on the brand's famous Swedish meatballs...and then stopping on the way out for a bag of the frozen ones. While we might not be able to get to an Ikea right now, thankfully, the brand shared a recipe for some delicious meatballs.

Ikea shared the recipe via its U.K. Twitter account, complete with illustrated instructions that probably look very familiar if you've ever built something from Ikea. It also includes a recipe for cream sauce so don't worry, no dry meatballs here!

The chain later clarified in a statement that the recipe is not the top-secret recipe used in stores, but it's still pretty yummy! Country food manager at Ikea Lorena Lourido told Delish:

Our ‘real’ meatballs and Swedish cream sauce recipe remains a closely guarded secret, known only to a select few. However, in good conscience we couldn’t deprive the nation from missing out on their meatball fix, so we’ve made an almost-as-delicious alternative that can be easily made at home! We hope that it fills a gap until we can meet again. Until then, stay home and stay safe.

The whole recipe features a little over a dozen ingredients, which might seem like a lot, but you probably already have a lot of them in your pantry or fridge (like butter, flour, milk, soy sauce, and mustard).

Even things you don't have can be easily made (leaving out extra slices of bread to make homemade breadcrumbs is truly one of the greatest joys in my life). Oh, also the recipe uses metric measurements, but we've converted it for a U.S. audience below. Happy cooking!

Ikea Meatballs At Home, serves four

For the meatballs:
500 grams beef mince (roughly one pound ground beef)
250 grams pork mince (roughly 1/2 pound ground pork)
1 onion finely chopped
1 clove of garlic (crushed or minced)
100 grams (3.5 ounces) breadcrumbs
1 egg
5 tablespoons of whole milk
Generous salt and pepper

For the cream sauce:
Dash of oil
40 grams (roughly 2.5 tablespoons) of butter
40 grams (roughly 2.5 tablespoons) of flour
150 milliliters (five fluid ounces) vegetable stock
150 milliliters (five fluid ounces) beef stock
150 milliliter (five fluid ounces) heavy cream
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 teaspoons soy sauce

  1. Combine beef and pork mince (ground beef and pork) and mix with your fingers to break up any lumps. Add finely chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg and mix. Add milk and season well with salt and pepper.

  2. Shape mixture into small, round balls. Place on a clean plate, cover and store in the fridge for two hours (this will help them hold their shape whilst cooking).

  3. In a frying pan, heat oil on medium heat. When hot, gently add meatballs and brown on all sides.

  4. When browned, add to an ovenproof dish and cover. Place in a hot oven at 180 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) and cook for a further 30 minutes.

  5. Melt butter in a pan. Whisk in flour and stir for two minutes. Add the vegetable stock and beef stock and continue to stir. Add the heavy cream, soy sauce and Dijon mustard. Bring it to a simmer and allow the sauce to thicken.

  6. When ready to eat, serve with your favorite potatoes -- either creamy mash or mini new boiled potatoes. Enjoy!
