There are so many reasons to love IKEA. Whether you rely on its inexpensive yet reliable furniture, secretly can’t get enough of the DIY assembly process, or take advantage of the generous family loyalty program, the brand has proved itself as a flat-pack furniture standby. And last week, IKEA gave us just one more reason to give its products a go.

With VALLHORN, PARASOLL, and BADRING—three smart home security sensors that pick up motion and water leaks in small, aesthetically pleasing packages—IKEA has officially made its way into the smart home sector. According to Stjepan Begic, a product design developer at IKEA of Sweden, the brand’s latest Life at Home Report showed that people prioritize comfort and security in their homes.

“Everyone wants to feel safe at home and we feel excited about entering a new smart product area that creates not only a better, but safer life at home,” wrote Begic in a press release announcing the devices. “We believe these products can provide our customers with peace of mind and a greater sense of control and comfort.”

VALLHORN is a wireless motion sensor that lights up whenever it detects movement. You can place the device indoors or outdoors, and adjust the light’s color and intensity based on your personal home security needs. PARASOLL works quite similarly, notifying you when windows or doors are opened or closed—simply mount the device on the entryway of your choosing.

IKEA’s new water leakage detection system, called BADRING, can be placed next to a water source, and will notify users immediately upon detecting a leak. Gone are the days of out-of-control kitchen sinks—this way, you’ll be ready to address any problems that arise immediately. All three of the smart home devices are small, sleek, and white, meant to blend discreetly into any interior design style—there‘s no need to sacrifice aesthetics for safety!

All of the devices are designed to be affordable, each going for under $10, and will be available in 2024—VALLHORN and PARASOLL will be sold starting in January, while BADRING comes out in April.

Perhaps the best part of IKEA’s smart home launch? You can connect all three (or any combination) of the devices to the brand’s DIRIGERA smart device hub—sold for $70—and the IKEA Home app to seamlessly control all of your security features at once. DIRIGERA also connects to previously-launched products like light bulbs, speakers, and more, so opting for the hub opens up a whole new world of smart home possibilities.

You can control your devices at any time with the IKEA Home app—even when you’re out of the house—and coordinate tech to work together in just about any combination. And because they’re connected to the centralized system, IKEA can continue to develop and improve their features over time.

“At IKEA, we want to make smarter living simpler and more convenient for everyone,” David Granath, range manager at IKEA of Sweden, said in the press release. “Our new sensors merge technology with our home furnishing expertise, to provide affordable solutions that elevate everyday moments at home.”
