Some people go to Ikea only to dine on meatballs in the cafeteria. The store that's famous for its flat-pack furniture put together with a hex key (also known as an Allen wrench) is also renowned for its Swedish meatballs served with lingonberry jam. They’re served hot and ready to eat in the cafeteria. They’re also sold uncooked at the Ikea food market, so you can take them home to enjoy at another time.

Recently, Ikea has touted a different meatball on Instagram, one that’s enormous enough to feed 25 people. There are two versions of this main dish: a ginormous meat one (presumably made with the same ingredients in the store’s Swedish meatballs) and a Veggieball Christmas Tree, made with what looks like dozens of smaller meatballs.

Ikea’s Massive Meatball Masterpiece

“It’s big. It’s tasty. It could be yours!” Ikea teased on Instagram. While viewers' eyes grew big enough to take in the enormous ball of meat in the photo (with a distinctly 1970s retro magazine ad vibe), we imagine many of their hearts simultaneously began to sink.

Ikea wasn’t joking when it said the meatball “could be yours.” Yes, it could be, but it probably won’t be. The store has made just 30 “glorious Turkey-Sized Meatballs and 30 vegan-friendly Veggieball Christmas trees.” Anyone who wants to have either of them grace their holiday table must jump through Ikea’s hoops and cross their fingers.

First, they must like the Instagram post, follow ikeauk on Instagram, leave a comment about which version they want, and then tag everyone they’d share it with. Unfortunately, the offer is good only in the UK.

We don’t know why Ikea is leaving the U.S. and other countries out of all the meatball fun, but it is, and we’ll have to accept it and hope that it goes over so well that the Swedish store expands its turkey-sized meatball offer to other countries next year.
