IKEA's New SJÄLVSTÄNDIG Collection Is Finally Here, And It's All About Hacking Their Products

As much of a process as it is to actually build IKEA furniture, the price and versatility of the pieces are oh-so worth the emotional rollercoaster ride. Especially when the company listens to exactly what its customers want. Since almost everyone loves a helpful furniture hack or DIY project (if you haven't used at least one IKEA hack in your life, you're doing it wrong), the brand has made it their mission to bring those pieces to life in stores. Case in point: the brand's newest release, the SJÄLVSTÄNDIG limited collection.

SJÄLVSTÄNDIG, which means "independent" in Swedish, "touches upon themes of liberation, rebelliousness, and creativity," according to a press release. Because of this, every item in the collection was designed specifically so buyers will make them their own. "We have a lot of research in IKEA showing that people want the option to personalize items," IKEA Creative Leader Maria O’Brian said. "Upon altering our belongings to suit our style preferences, we’re actually building a closer relationship with those items."
