Conversations about today's best coolers always involve the Yeti brand, as it's known to keep ice for up to five days in many cases thanks to excellent technology. And while coolers like these are a necessary piece of gear for camping, tailgating, and beach-going, they can be very expensive. But Igloo coolers are often fairly priced and usually of amazing quality. Conveniently, one of its most popular outdoor coolers that rivals some of Yeti's just dropped in price by more than half.

Right now, the Igloo IMX 70-Quart Hard Cooler is on sale for as low as $173 on Amazon—up to a 51% discount on the original $350 price. This cooler is an underrated model in a competitive market, but it's earned over 425 five-star ratings from shoppers who say it keeps their drinks and food "just as cold as a Yeti." It's available in the 70-quart size in three colors and also comes in a compact 24-quart size that's well-suited for lunch, attending kids' sports games, or a quick beach trip.

This Igloo cooler measures approximately 31-by-20-by-18 inches with a 70-quart internal capacity and weighs just under 26 pounds. Compared to the closest similar Yeti model, it's a little bit smaller, but it weighs roughly 10 pounds less, which is significant given the size. It's made from lightweight but rugged hard plastic like many of today's best coolers and keeps its contents cold by suspending everything in the central chamber. It features four cup holders, a 25-inch ruler on the lid, molded side handles, and even rope handle grips that make transportation more comfortable. Two rubber fasteners are attached to the lid to secure the clamshell opening, and there's a hole for a lock if need be that has a built-in bottle opener. It also includes one dry basket that nests into the top of the internal chamber and a drain to make cleaning a breeze.

Many prospective cooler shoppers want to know the same thing—whether or not it's as good as a Yeti cooler. Those who have used it say yes, it is, including two brothers-in-law who put their coolers to the test to settle an argument. "He said it won't hold ice as long as a Yeti," the Igloo shopper said. "The big ice throwdown—what cooler can keep ice for three days in a 70-degree environment? At the end of three days, the Yeti had retained seven more ice cubes than the Igloo, and it cost three times as much. I rest my case."

Another shopper enthusiastically said it was "simply effing amazing" in multiple situations. "This is better than the equivalent-sized Yeti. The little details make this a superior cooler on its own merits, then tie in it's under half the price and it's a no-brainer."

Others have simply been impressed with the performance of this big cooler. "Best cooler ever," as one shopper put it. "I am the fourth person in our family to buy one of these, and we would all recommend this cooler to anyone. Four-day camping trip and still had ice present at the end."

With summer, camping, and cookouts in sight, having a reliable cooler like this one from Igloo is a must for many people, especially while it's on sale for just $173. We're not sure how long the price is going to last, so make sure to pick one up for yourself while the savings are still around.
