IDNR seeking entries for cicada art show at 2024 State Fair

ILLINOIS (WCIA) — A rare double-brood emergence of cicadas has started to arrive in many parts of the state. That may make many noses scrunch in disgust, but the Illinois Department of Natural Resources wants to help welcome the surfacing creatures with an art contest.

IDPH is inviting Illinois artists to enter their best original artwork of cicadas to be showcased at the State Fair. The pieces will be featured at an exhibition in Conservation World called “Everyone Belongs in Nature Even Cicadas.”

Any artist of any age can enter. Pieces from those 17 and younger will be displayed in a junior exhibit, while works from those 18 and above will be put up in an adult exhibit.

The deadline to enter is Sunday, June 16, 2024. The fair will run from August 8-18. To see guidelines and how to submit your artwork, visit the IDNR’s webpage.
