Idaho Ski Area Reporting "First Summit Snowfall" Of The Season

It's official. Brundage Mountain Resort, Idaho, reported its first summit snowfall of the season this morning, October 11th.

Check out the high-elevation dusting of snow below.

The storm deposited an inch of snow at Brundage's summit and was the first "recorded snowfall" since the resort began keeping track on October 1st. Sadly, the storm's precipitation came down as rain at the base area -- but that's to be expected in early October.

"This first blast of snow is more symbolic than anything," says resort spokesperson April Whitney. "We don't expect it to stick around long, but even a little blanket of white on the mountain gets our snow fanatics excited."

Couldn't have said it better myself. That first snow is more of a seasonal bookend. While it might not contribute to the resort's eventual mid-winter base, it accomplishes another, perhaps more important goal: getting the people going.

As for the rest of this week, the forecast calls for primarily above-freezing temperatures. However, there is a chance that a bit more snow will arrive at Brundage this evening.
