Hunter Schafer Shuts Down the Red Carpet With a Euphoria -Worthy Makeup Statement

With her MoMA-worthy eyeliner and celestial washes of glitter, Hunter Schafer has already caused a sensation on screen as Jules on HBO's Euphoria. But she's proving to be just as much of an aesthetic rule-breaker off screen. Last night as she celebrated making Variety's annual Power of Young Hollywood list at the magazine's annual event in L.A., she made a statement from head to toe, accentuating the pearl trimmings of her Christopher Kane set with splashes of iridescent gems on her face and hands.

Punctuating Schafer's deep blue gaze, makeup artist Sandy Ganzer pressed two pearl nail decals (sourced from Japanese variety store Don Quijote), on the bridge of her nose above the tear ducts, then placed another pair of slightly larger ones beneath the pupils. Then, adding another variation on the motif, Ganzer dotted her Schafer's pink-lacquered fingers with the pearlescent studs. The pro's secret weapon for staying power? That would be Pros-Aide, a liquid latex used to adhere prosthetics.

"I was packing my kit last night when I had this idea to use pearls in an unexpected way," explains Ganzer with a laugh. "When I saw her outfit was navy with pearls, I told her about my idea and we both screamed a little with excitement!" The rest of the look was kept natural with hints of luster: Raw skin save for lip balm and Lancer Glowing Skin Perfector, Glossier Cloud Paint in Puff blended on the apples of the cheeks, and Pat McGrath's Lip Fetish Balm in Gold Astral on the inner corners of the eyes for "luxe pearly shine."

"Hunter is like a little wood nymph," says Ganzer of the 20-year-old actress's soft features, porcelain complexion, and silvery platinum lengths, which make her an ethereal canvas. And it's Schafer's background as a model and artist that make her all the more inspiring to work with, she adds. "She’s more open to experiment with different looks and utilize makeup in a more artistic and playful way than most."
