Hunter Schafer Likes Moisturizer, Orange Wine, Wiggling

Hunter Schafer has been doing great, you're so sweet for asking, during this current episode. After filming on the outrageously anticipated second season of Euphoria was suspended due to COVID-19, Schafer purchased a truck, drove across the United States to her sister's home in North Carolina, and proceeded to do what most of America's most privileged are doing during this time: Absolutely nothing.

But not for long! Cosmetics giant Shiseido recently appointed Schafer its newest Global Makeup Ambassador, and then Allure photographed Schafer for the cover of its September issue, in which Schafer can be read speaking on Euphoria, her artistic process, and the sociopolitical moment she's found herself in. She also answered a rapid-fire set of beauty questions, in which she discloses her fondness for wiggling and her latest wine purchase.

Best beauty tip?

Hunter Schafer: The only thing I do beauty-wise, really, is moisturize.

Most used item in your makeup bag?

Schafer: Shiseido Essential Energy Moisturizing Cream. 

Last product you finished?

Schafer: My previous jar of Shiseido Essential Energy Moisturizing Cream!

First thing you do when you wake up?

Schafer: Figure out the coffee situation. Whether I’m making it or finding it somewhere.

Last thing you do before you fall asleep?

Schafer: Turn on a TV show and take melatonin. I don’t like sleeping, but you have to do it.

If you had to get a tattoo right now…

Schafer: I always liked the idea of having hand tattoos. I hallucinated this shape that looked really crazy and terrifying that I’ve been thinking about so much. It’s a little sort of sun thing. I looked it up and the closest thing I could find was silhouettes of circular razor saws.

Favorite non-perfume smell?

Schafer: I don’t know specifically, but I was driving with my friends through the Valley a few days ago and we had the windows open — the smell of whatever grass is over there. [Editor’s note: LA Weekly once printed that jasmine was the #1 most recognizable smell in Los Angeles — besting Korean BBQ (#6) and marijuana (#13).]

Schafer: Can I say wiggling?

Weirdest ritual?

Schafer: I don’t know. I guess my tics are kind of like rituals, but I guess that’s not fun.

Okay — weirdest tic?

Schafer: When I have an intrusive thought that I don’t like, I touch my head to my shoulder.

The last thing you bought?

Schafer: Orange wine.

What was your high-school beauty look?

Schafer: My first half of high school, I was really into wearing eyeliner, because I was more androgynous at the time and wanted to be gendered correctly, so I would do my little cat eye.

Happiest hair moment?

Schafer: I really liked having it purple when we were shooting Euphoria. That made me feel good, and it turned kind of blue, which was cool. Also, when I was first growing out my hair, I could do little space buns. That was a very happy moment for me.
