Being a trans woman and playing a trans character, Hunter has broken barriers with her depiction of trans issues and storylines — and became a fan favorite.

But this week the actor faced backlash for liking and commenting "!!!!" on this heavily criticized pos:

“I hope all of the people (enbies) who fought to have trans identities no longer considered a medical condition that requires dysphoria are happy because you’ve won,” the author of the post wrote. "The red states are beginning to agree with you. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and gender-affirming surgery are no longer deemed medically necessary for adults in Florida and it’s not going to stop there.”

It basically asserts that those who do not medically transition hold some of the blame for the anti-trans policy coming from the right-wing.

Activist and queer legislative researcher, Erin Reed, said that transmedicalists "seek to gatekeep transition heavily."

"Damn, Hunter Schafer is really supporting blaming other trans people for the bills that right-wingers and fascists are pushing to restrict and ban trans healthcare. How disappointing," one person wrote.

People were just really disappointed in Hunter's stance:

People even memed the situation — joking about the implication that non-binary people are somehow to blame for anti-trans legislation:

Hunter has not responded to the backlash, but we will update you if she does.
