Hundreds attend Stomp Out Stigma Walk for Mental Health

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Hundreds of people walked Saturday morning to end the stigma around mental health.

The Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan hosted the 22nd annual Stomp Out Stigma Walk for Mental Health.

Walk aims to ‘Stomp Out Stigma’ surrounding mental health disorders

Many of the walkers are survivors of suicide, including Charlene Scranton, who lost her grandson on Jan. 7, 2016. This is her eighth time walking.

“We’re getting it out there and letting people know (mental health) has got to be taken care of. It’s got to be taken care of. We’ve got to talk about it and educate people on it,” she said.

Organizers say over $60,000 was raised from the event. The money benefits the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan’s be nice. programs and awareness throughout the community. Learn more here.
