Have you ever listened to an episode of Serial? Or followed along with rapt attention as a true crime podcast unfolded, episode by episode? Then Hulu's Only Murders in the Building is probably already your new favorite thing. The comedy satirizes the making of one such podcast.

The Hulu series—which features the all-star cast of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez—was officially renewed for a second season in September 2021, weeks after its August premiere. The news is not surprising, considering Only Murders in the Building debuted as the most-watched Hulu Original comedy on its premiere day.

"Thanks to the incredible audience response, we are so happy to say there will be more murders in the building—which is great news for everyone, except perhaps the residents of the Arconia," Karey Burke, the president of 20th Television said confirming the show's second season.

John Hoffman, the show's co-creator and executive producer, said, "To feel we’ve connected with our audience and hit the mark enough already to have the chance to continue —and to carry on our show’s wild ride of mystery-comedy-empathy—is too exciting for words."

The first season, which has episodes that drop weekly until October 5, follows the true crime-obsessed trio's investigation of a suspicious death that took place in their posh Upper West Side building, the Arconia. When Tim Kono (Julian Cihi) winds up dead, Mabel (Gomez), Charles (Martin), and Oliver (Short) think they have the know-how to solve the case better than apathetic police. But do they?

Here's hoping the amateur sleuths solve the mystery of Tim Kono in time to take on another for season 2.

There's no word about a release date, yet.

Only Murders in the Building is definitely coming back for a second season. But when? Add this to the list of show's mysteries. Though you don't need to start a true crime podcast to find the answer—just patience.

Only Murders in the Building was filmed in New York amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Speaking to Elle, Gomez explained what filming under COVID protocols was like. "No one was allowed to be on set. Everybody wore masks and shields," she said. Apparently, she had to wash her mouth with Listerine after each kissing scene (spoiler!) "It burned my mouth. I was like, ‘I want to throw up.’ I’ve never experienced a set like that," she said.

The cast is expected to return for a second season.

Martin, Short, and Gomez play the show's central trio. Martin's character, Charles Haden-Savage, became famous playing a TV detective. Short's Oliver Putnam is an out-of-work Broadway director. And Mabel is a millennial artist with ties to the murder victim himself.

The actors are heavily involved behind-the-scenes, which indicates they would return for a second season. The series was written and created by Martin and John Hoffman; Short and Gomez serve as executive producers.

Further, we can almost definitely expect a stellar list of guest stars in the show's upcoming season. In season 1, Tina Fey plays the host of a successful true crime podcast called All is Not OK in Oklahoma; Nathan Lane makes an appearance as a Broadway producer, naturally; Sting plays, well, Sting. Start building out your dream cast.

Likely, it'll be set in New York.

With its shots of Manhattan's Upper West Side neighborhood, Only Murders in the Building is a quintessentially New York show. The series was filmed in the Belnord, a building erected in 1908 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Next time you're in Manhattan, walk by the 12-story building located at 86th and Broadway and wave Mabel, Charles, and Oliver hello.
