Hugh Jackman is officially reprising the role of the mutant Wolverine one more time, marking his long-running character's first official appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming sequel/soft reboot Deadpool 3. He made the announcement alongside Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds in September 2022, acknowledging that some timeline-juggling shenanigans may need to take place in order to account for the fact that Wolverine died at the end of 2017's Logan.

Jackman has also said that he's going to be having a lot of fun with the character this time around, promising that Wolverine will be "definitely angrier, sort of grumpy, and he's gonna take a lot of free shots at Ryan Reynolds. Physically, that is."

Training for the movie has now officially begun: both Jackman and Reynolds are back in the gym sculpting their respective superhero physiques prior to the start of filming, and the two actors are starting to get a little competitive when it comes to just how swole they can get for their big MCU debut.

It started when celebrity trainer Don Saladino, known for helping stars undergo "superhero shred" transformations, shared a photo of Reynolds working on his guns on Instagram. "Deadpool 3 training in full effect," he wrote.

Jackman responded with a photo from his own arm day workout, posing mid-dumbbell curl with fitness coach Beth Lewis and saying: "He's only 46. I'm older. But it’s not a competition." And just to make sure the dig landed, he tagged Reynolds in the post.

With Deadpool 3 not due to be released until some time in 2024, it looks like Jackman and Reynolds' arms race will be going on for a while.
