Waffles come with many different toppings, from syrup, berries, and whipped cream, to bacon, eggs, and fried chicken. But when actor Hugh Jackman revealed what he put on top of his waffles, fans were baffled.

Jackman posted a photo to Instagram of a meal he ate recently at the Waffle House in Norwich, England. It depicted a waffle smothered in what looks like cheese sauce, possibly a helping of Bolognese, and a thick layer of mushrooms in gravy. He wrote, "I did not share. And I am not sorry."

Commenters expressed horror at the idea of adding mushrooms to a waffle. "MUSHROOMS ON WAFFLES? IS THIS THE WOLVERINE DIET?" one said. Another: "Wait what kind of shrooms is that? On waffles?!?!" A more hesitant comment: "I don't know about the mushrooms!" And finally, "Mushrooms on a waffle, Jack, you've changed."

It seems that fungi are a contentious waffle topping—or perhaps it's just that mushrooms themselves are a polarizing food. People seem to either love them or hate them, and being on one side of the spectrum makes it hard to comprehend the other.

We do know that Jackman is busy preparing for another role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. He is reportedly "bulking up" for it, eating six meals a day which amounts to more than 8,000 calories. Jackman has spoken out in the past about using food to build muscle mass, rather than relying on steroids, and that means a lot of chicken. He told "Today" a few months ago:

"I tell you, I've eaten more chickens—I’m so sorry to all the vegans and vegetarians and to the chickens of the world. Literally the karma is not good for me. If the deity has anything related to chickens, I'm in trouble."

So, maybe he's trying to spare a few chickens by opting for mushrooms on his waffles. Let's not begrudge the man his unique choice of meal. If Hugh's digging it, then so are we.
