Hugh Grant Reflects on 'Pretentious' Past After Viral Interview

The actor is promoting his new film 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.'

Hugh Grant is being called out by Chris Pine.

The 62-year-old actor sat down for an interview with his Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves costars, Michelle Rodriguez, 44, and Pine, 42, during which he recalled being 'pretentious' in college.

“What did Hugh Grant study at Oxford?” Pine asked during the WIRED Autocomplete Interview posted on March 13.

“English literature,” Grant responded. “Fat lot of good that did me. But I didn’t do much of that towards the end. I became a socialite, really. I went to parties and was pretentious.”

"Nothing much has changed," the Don't Worry Darling star joked as Rodriguez burst into laughter. Grant responded, "Yeah, exactly," which may have been a subtle nod to his now-viral Oscars interview.

The Notting Hill actor was called by fans for being "rude" following a brief chat with host and model Ashley Graham on the Oscars red carpet on Sunday, March 12.
"You're a veteran of the Oscars and have been here a few times. What's your favorite thing about coming to the Oscars?" Graham asked Grant, to which he responded after stammering for a few seconds, "It's fascinating. It's…erm…the whole of humanity is here," he said, visibly looking uncomfortable.

"It's vanity fair," he added, poking fun at the award show, which the 35-year-old misinterpreted as a comment about the magazine's big afterparty rather than about the gathering of Hollywood's A-listers.

The supermodel then asked him what he was "most excited to see" during the ceremony, which again confused the actor as he responded, "to see?"

Graham gently prodded him, wondering if there was a particular film or person he was rooting for. "Not…no one in particular," he admitted in a dismissive manner.

Graham asked a few more questions before closing out the interview with one final inquiry, stating, "What does it feel like to be in Glass Onion?"

"Well, I'm barely in it. I'm in it for about 3-seconds," Grant replied. As Graham attempted to get something out of him, suggesting, "Yeah, but still, you showed up and you had fun, right?" he once again gave her nothing to work with, answering curtly, "Uh, almost."

The day following the event, Graham was asked if she took "offense" to the interview.  “You know what? My mama told me to kill people with kindness, so there you go,” the model told TMZ the following day, emphasizing that she has "so much fun."
