Huge Bear Casually Strolls Through CA Neighborhood Like It's His Job

He doesn't have a care in the world!

California is a pretty interesting place to begin with, but residents of a quiet residential area near Los Angeles got quite the surprise on Friday, April 28. An eyewitness for @abc7newsbayarea got some amazing video footage of a huge black bear wandering down the street as if he lived just a few houses down.

Viewers are shocked at the massive size of the nonchalant bear, who'd recently woken from hibernation. Add that to the random location he chose to explore, and you've created the perfect storm for a startling situation.

Woah--that black bear is seriously massive! We knew the animal was going to be big since it's mentioned in the video's description, but actually seeing his sheer size is impressive. We're so glad everyone and their pets were inside while he was wandering around!

We're sure he was looking for food after months of hibernation--as animals do--and that neighborhood just happened to be nearby. There must've been a trash can with something yummy inside that he could smell!

Still, commenter @crech007 made a great point when she said, "I'm sure he didn't appreciate that comment about his weight." No kidding! Even though bears tend to lose 15-30% of their body weight every hibernation season, this guy is still an absolute unit. Just imagine how big he must be before he hibernates in the fall!

We sure hope this big bear was able to find a snack and leave the residential neighborhood safely, though. Even as such a large animal, he's not invincible against people or cars.

"We’ve taken so much of their habitat it’s so sad," wrote @the4thperspective. You're so right! That's probably why this bear was in a suburban area in the first place.

To help keep bears out of neighborhoods as much as possible, California residents are encouraged to keep trash bins and pet food containers secure.
