APPLETON - Hudson Henry Granola, a formerly Virginia-based granola brand, has new owners and a new home, right here in Appleton.

The company was launched in 2012 by previous owners Hope and David Lawrence in Charlottesville, Virginia. The couple sold their first bag of granola, make with real maple syrup, big flake coconut, crunchy sliced almonds and pumpkin seeds, at the 2012 Charlottesville City Market. Within the same year, Hudson Henry Granola was being sold at Whole Foods and featured on The Today Show.

Last year, the company was purchased by the owners of Cherryland's Best, which sells dried cherry products and other berries out of Appleton.

Hudson Henry Granola made the official move to Appleton this summer and now shares the same facility as Cherryland's Best at 801 Fullview Drive, said director of operations Jen Miller.

"(The owners) knew when they bought it, they would always eventually run it here," Miller said. "When the (former) owners stepped away in Virginia there was no one who wanted to step up and kind of lead that crew and so sooner than later we decided to move the company here so we could keep a closer eye on it."

With the current owners being from the Fox Valley area, the move to Appleton allowed them to harness their expertise and resources available in Wisconsin, the news release stated.

Customers can currently choose from five granola flavors; maple, pecan and coconut, pistachio, almond and coconut, cashew and coconut, maple and walnut and pecan and chocolate. Under the new ownership, more flavors are being tested and developed.

"We are working on new recipes right now to roll out some new options," Miller said. "Additionally, in the future, we'd like to look towards like bars and other options, but right now our first task is coming up with a new recipes for the for the granola itself."

Miller said they have plans to launch a new snack pack sized granola snack that will be sold in convenience stores.

The company also plans to make appearances at local farmers markets and events, to help establish its presence in the area, Miller said.

Hudson Henry Granola can be purchased in stores Festival Foods, Walmart, Sam's Club, Target and more. Customers can also shop for the product online on the website hudsonhenrybakingco.com.
