Hub for local artwork opens in Myrtle Beach Arts & Innovation District

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — In the heart of Myrtle Beach’s Arts and Innovation District, you can find a new hub for local artwork — the Kaleidoscope Artisan Collective.

This isn’t your typical art gallery. The idea behind Kaleidoscope is for various local artisans of all kinds to come together to create something vibrant and light up downtown Myrtle Beach.

According to owner of Kaleidoscope, Joe Kohler, there are 31 artists in total featured there.

“We are trying to raise all boats. It helps us out, it helps the artists out, it helps the community out,” he said.

Dedicated to local artisans, Kaleidoscope showcases an array of artwork from paintings, to jewelry, candles, coloring books and furniture.

While there are beach-themed pieces, that’s not the only focus there.

“We want to have something for someone who doesn’t want necessarily the beach-themed but still wants something made at the beach,” Kohler said.

The gallery opened a month ago. However, the artwork on display and layout is ever-changing.

“That has to do with maybe even getting new artists or, you know, when something sells, things get moved around, store manager Kristina Didomenico said. “So, it’s nice to be able to come in and not see something you saw before.”

Didomenico said for those looking to free their inner artists and let their creative juices flow, there are all types of classes and workshops available.

“Painting classes, mosaic classes, glass classes, wind chime, there’s a wine painting class but also among classes we can do private parties,” she said.

It all circles back to its mission of supporting the local art community. In fact, all the local artisans featured inside receive a percentage of sales and their contact cards are also on display.
