Howling Winds Thrash Chairlift At Italian Ski Resort

High winds thrashed  a stopped chairlift in Cervinia, Italy, per a video shared by an X user named @MrCrabtreePE.

"This lift in Cervinia (Cretaz) closed just before we got on! Scary!" @MrCrabtreePE wrote.

As @MrCrabtreePE noted, the lift pictured in the video is the Cretaz lift, which transports skiers from the Breuil-Cervinia base. During the windstorm, he spotted a "few people" stuck on the lift.

A video shared in response to @MrCrabtreePE's upload appears to show an object falling from one of the swinging chairlifts.

More footage of the incident surfaced today on Reddit.

Further information about the wind storm in Cervinia isn't available yet.

The Cretaz lift is part of a large cross-border ski resort complex that connects slopes in Italy and Switzerland. Starting on the Italian side, you can ride a combination of lifts and ski runs to Zermatt, Switzerland, or vice versa.

However, today, it's safe to assume that skiers weren't eyeing cross-border ski trips. The winds saw to that.
