Last night, Chloe Sevigny appeared at the Kenzo x H&M collection launch serving her signature look: a sleek center part, fresh, dewy skin, and a bright red lip. She enhanced her look to suit the eclectic collection, adorning with a tight braid and bold earrings, but her signature look is forever.

Sevigny’s thin, narrow lips look amazing with a swipe of red color, but lots of women with dainty pouts aren’t comfortable drawing attention to the size of their lips, especially during Kylie Jenner’s internet reign.

But, as fellow thin-lipped beauty icon Gwyneth Paltrow famously said, “beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.” Paltrow is right, and women shouldn’t allow their lip size and shape to keep them from wearing bold lip colors.

If you’re ready to dip your toes into red lipstick, exfoliate and moisturize your lips and start with liner. Use your lip liner to enhance the shape of your lips — play up or minimize your cupid’s bow, and exaggerate the things you love about your shape. Everybody hates themselves in lipstick at first, (probably due to the shock factor) so don’t get scared away. Fill in with your boldest color, then use highlighter on your cupid’s bow and clean up your work around the edges with a bright concealer to make your lips pop. So, go forth and break beauty rules.
