Hotel Butlers Are Trending, and They’ll Even Help Your Kids Build Structurally Sound Sandcastles

Forget basic turndown service in the form of a lowered drape or a chocolate square on your pillow, the latest travel trend has hotels going above and beyond with butlers. Sure we’ve seen some concierge amenities that cater to pampered pets, or fitness instructors that moonlight as hotel staff (think tennis, golf and skiing pros who will teach you their skills during your stay), but the new onslaught of butler offerings (and taking over the hospitality industry) will actually blow your mind.

For instance, when you check in at the The Shelbourne in Dublin, Ireland, you’ll have access to their “Genealogy Butler” Helen Kelly, who will work with you to trace your Irish roots as well as develop personalized research plans and take you on genealogical tours throughout Ireland.

While over in New Orleans, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, their resident spook master aka “Bedtime Ghost Story Butler” Russell Murphy will recite tales of the city’s dark history while dishing out tips on the best local ghost, voodoo and cemetery tours and haunted houses.

If you arrive in Mexico City jet lagged, stressed or just hyped up from a few too many in-flight cocktails, have no fear. The St. Regis Mexico City has a “Meditation Butler by Remède Spa,” who will allow you to kick off your trip with a holistic approach via Muse, a brain sensing headband that gives audio feedback while meditating.

And for those travelers who are really just looking to live their best life on the beach—or keep their kids entertained — there’s a “Sand Castle Butler” at The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island in Florida, who will assist with castle building techniques and tools for sculpting. There’s also a “Toy Butler” at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower and Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel in London, who will curate an age-appropriate selection of the latest toys, crafts, books and games courtesy of London-based Toy Box Club.

Let’s just put it this way: We have really high expectations for any vacation moving forward.
