Hostess Has New Holiday Twinkies You’ll Only Find at Walmart

However, even with all the variety of flavors we’ve seen in the past (looking at you, strawberry, mint chocolate, and pumpkin spice), one thing is sure: the original still stands strong. Walmart is doubling down on that fact and launching an oversized holiday-inspired gift box containing the beloved traditional Twinkies.

Walmart’s Limited-Edition Twinkies Holiday Gift Box

Walmart will release a massive 3-foot-long limited-edition Twinkies Holiday Gift Box at the end of November. The festive gift box includes 18 individually wrapped Twinkies, costing $13.97. It’s a Walmart exclusive, so you can only get it at your local retail location or online while supplies last.

How the Twinkie Got Its Start

These American snack cakes from the iconic Hostess Brand have been around since 1930 when bakery manager Jimmy Dewer first created them at the Continental Baking Company in River Forest, Illinois.

The recipe to make Twinkies includes mixing its golden yellow batter and adding it to metal pans to get that famous shape. They then bake in the oven before getting injected with vanilla filling. Interestingly, the cakes’ first filling was banana flavored and didn’t change to vanilla until World War II.

Since its creation, the Twinkie has become an American household staple. Not just a dessert, these snack cakes are ideal any time of the day when you’re craving something sweet. The combination of moist sponge cake and creamy filling never seems to fail, and the individual wrapping helps make for a convenient on-the-go snack.

Instagram user tjleonard099 says, “My favorite snack is Twinkies golden sponge cake with creamy filling!” On another Instagram post from the original hostess_snacks, someone commented, “I'm 35 years old and I've been eating these since I was at least 5.”
