Last year, Dead by Daylight had The HALLOWEEN Chapter, an update that brought both Halloween, the annual event, and Halloween, the horror film franchise, to the game. Michael Myers (or The Shape) was added to the game, the antagonist from John Carpenter's Halloween, complete with the ominous music that has since been associated with the franchise. It looks like there's going to be a new Halloween event this year, with another famous horror face: Freddy Krueger.

Coming from A Nightmare on Elm Street, written and directed by Wes Craven, it's fitting that Krueger would follow on from Myers, given how A Nightmare on Elm Street built upon a genre that Halloween made popular. In case you've not heard the plot, Krueger is an undead spirit that haunts the dreams of children, seeking revenge for his murder. If he kills you in your dream, he'll kill you in real life (in a typically nasty fashion).

In the films, the plot revolves around kids (teens, really, with Johnny Depp in his debut role) discovering Krueger's history, trying to survive, and working out how to beat him, without much success. He's driven by the fear from his victims, so the typical way to beat him is to stand up to him, in a very Pennywise/IT fashion.

The reason why folks think he's coming to Dead by Daylight is a recent teaser trailer simply titled "Don't Fall Asleep." In it, a metal bar is scratched with the Dead by Daylight logo, which together make for a very Krueger-y teaser, with the "Don't Fall Asleep" being typical advice characters in the films offer, while the scratching being the result of Krueger's knife fingers.

How he might get implemented into Dead by Daylight is another matter, and it may be that he introduced new mechanics of players being forced to sleep, or perhaps a set of skills that are improved when an enemy flees in fear. That doesn't sound too distinct from Michael Myers' ability, though, which may mean that's an unlikely scenario.

Given the Halloween-y vibe, we can probably expect more information to drop in the near future.
