Hopper Will Now Tell You When to Book a Hotel to Get the Best Price

Hopper, an airfare forecasting app that tells travelers exactly when to buy a flight for the best price, announced their new hotel service on Thursday, with 270,000 bookable hotels in 230 countries and territories.

The launch follows the success of a beta test in New York City in 2017 when the hotel price-prediction product was first used. Since then, the company has posted a small number of hotels in various test markets, primarily in the U.S. Thursday’s announcement is a result of Hopper’s continued gathering of historic hotel pricing, real-time pricing, and demand data in order to forecast future rates for hotels around the world.

The company reports that by “booking at the right time can save travelers on average $61/night off of peak prices.” And if their hotel product is anything like their flight product — which boasts a 95-percent recommendation accuracy up to a year in advance — this may completely change how you book a hotel room.

“If you watch a hotel, Hopper will do the work for you and continuously monitor both public rates and any private rates for which you are eligible and explore every channel to secure you a deal that can be around $50 cheaper than prices online,” Brianna Schneider, director of communications, said in a statement. “You’ll receive a push notification the instant prices drop or if Hopper secures you a private deal.”

The app’s new search function lets users enter a city, neighborhood, or site and filter by neighborhood, rating, price, and amenities. When you’re notified that the price has dropped, you can book directly in the app.

According to Hopper, all 270,000 hotels are now available to book via the app on iOS, and the Android update is coming in the next few weeks.
