Anyone who maintains a lawn knows it’s hard work. Trimming grass is taxing enough, but making sure it stays healthy is another story. Repeatedly walking on grass can cause soil to be compacted, and can damage roots and sometimes destroy the grass itself.

TikToker Thomas Lyons‘ friend noticed people constantly walking through his lawn because it was faster than walking around the perimeter. When he got fed up, the homeowner decided to take matters into his own hands. Lyons shared the homeowner’s security footage on TikTok.

“When people won’t stop cutting across your lawn set up an automatic sprinkler,” the caption read.

The funny video showed a woman and two children casually cutting across the lawn as usual. But stepping on a certain area triggered the sprinklers and they were pummeled with water. They each ran away, retreating to the sidewalk where they should’ve been walking in the first place.

“My buddy just set this up the other day. So hopefully we got a lot more of these videos coming,” Lyons added.

TikTokers loved the homeowner’s idea. The video received 40.4 million views.

“I love this level of pettiness. It’s your lawn, so do as you wish,” a user wrote.

“I was raised to never walk in someone’s yard, especially a stranger’s,” another person said.

“Anyone who’s hating has never spent time keeping grass alive,” someone commented.
