'Home Town' Season 5 is Finally Here and We're Already Emotional
The fifth season of HGTV's Home Town premieres on Sunday, January 3, on HGTV and streaming on Discovery + on January 4.
We caught up with the renovation gurus behind the show, Erin and Ben Napier, ahead of the season premiere.
Fans can expect more heartwarming moments, including a special episode that features Ben and Erin's longtime showrunner Angie.
Calling all Home Town fans! Ben and Erin Napier are officially back with brand new episodes of their hit HGTV show. The Laurel, Mississippi, residents are now well-known for transforming average homes in their community into amazing all-American design masterpieces.
Now that they're returning for a fifth season, we asked them how things have changed since the show's series premiere in January 2016. "The show has changed so much," Ben shared. "Season one, you're trying to figure out the blueprint, and figure out what's boring or unnecessary. [HGTV] gave us the opportunity to figure out the mold and break it every episode."
The couple reassures fans that the key elements they've come to know and love will remain big parts of each episode. "You're going to see a home tour, and a big reveal, but the stuff in between we have more freedom with now," Ben says.
The season five premiere episode is about a local Laurel photographer who is also a good friend of Ben and Erin's. She has experienced terrible loss in her past, but wants to find a new home in which to turn over a new page in her life and help her blended family grow closer. After Ben and Erin help their friends choose an adorable home, the couple also shares some emotional, exciting news with the audience. (We can't wait to tune in!!!)
Fans can expect plenty more heartwarming, surprising moments throughout all the new episodes. We're particularly excited about one episode in particular, as the new season also features a very special makeover for the Home Town showrunner, Angela Tarrant.
"We're constantly pulling back the curtain and showing the process—how it works together with the homeowner and how it gets complicated when it's also your boss," the couple shared. "Angie is our showrunner, so she knows all of the nitty gritty." Ben and Erin said they had to find a way to work with Angie and give her the chance to experience the show as a homeowner, too.
New episodes premiere on Sunday, January 3, at 8 p.m. ET on HGTV, and they're coming to Discovery + on January 4! We can't wait to watch them all.
