Home Improvement actor Zachery Ty Bryan was arrested in Oregon this past weekend, new reports reveal.

Bryan, 41, was arrested Friday, July 28, on charges of felony assault after police responded to a call for a reported physical dispute between a male and female at a Eugene residence, multiple outlets have confirmed.

TMZ was the first to report the news on Sunday, July 30, and per the publication, Bryan was not present when law enforcement arrived on the scene. Authorities worked to track the actor down, later taking him to a local jail where he was then booked.

Three years ago, Bryan was arrested on similar charges and for the assault of his then-girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright. Initially, the actor was arrested on charges of fourth-degree assault and strangulation, but he later pleaded guilty to two lesser charges, including misdemeanor menacing and misdemeanor assault.

Earlier this year, Bryan told The Hollywood Reporter that his October 2020 arrest "got so blown out of proportion" by the press it "effectively shattered his public image." He also claimed the situation was not as physical as the police report states.

“We didn’t even really get that physical. We got really loud. We were screaming and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear," he said.

"At the end of the day, [the police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something," Bryan added, also telling reporters police called him "Country Club Zach" and poked fun at his child stardom.

"I could've fought it, but that's more stress and drama," he added. "I got two misdemeanors and called it a day."

This was his second arrest of 2020, after being booked on a DUI charge in Orange County that May. Bryan pleaded guilty to the DUI and was sentenced to five years of probation and 18 months of a multiple-offender alcohol program due to a record of DUI arrests that include bookings in 2004, 2007 and 2017, according to court documents obtained by THR.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Bryan acknowledged that he "definitely [has] an issue with drinking," though he doesn't believe the term "alcoholic" applies to him.

"Dude, I started drinking when I was 14," he recalled. "Back then, I was going to nightclubs and they would just let me in because I was the kid from Home Improvement." Now, he said, he tries to stay away from it. "I’ve just kind of disengaged. I’ve got my routine, I’m not going out and getting lit, and that takes away a lot of problems."

Since he quit acting in 2009, Bryan has also been accused of running a fraudulent agriculture-technology startup scheme, with four sources telling THR that they gave Bryan individual payment amounts ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 in exchange for fake contracts which actually had no value.

The sources explained that they declined to alert authorities or file a lawsuit because of the low amount of money involved or because they hadn't fully processed the situation.

Of the accusations, Bryan said, "This was not me running some shady scam deal or something — that’s just not me." He told the outlet that the situation went awry because the tokens that had been discussed never materialized after the company changed its business model and that "I’m in the same boat."

Bryan and Cartwright are still together. The two got engaged in 2021 and share three children. Bryan also has four children from his previous marriage.
