In episode three of HGTV's Home in a Heartbeat, star and DIY renovation expert Galey Alix took on the home of a single dad and soon-to-be empty-nester — and delivered one of her biggest transformations yet. Afterward, she posted before-and-after photos to Instagram, garnering a huge reaction from fans and calls for HGTV to renew the show for season two.

One major highlight of the three-day makeover: The laundry bar, proving that sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference. Since the home only had a laundry closet, Galey found space for a laundry folding area in an underutilized nook by the stairs. The sophisticated cabinet (painted Midnight in NY by Behr), cleverly disguises clothes hampers while showcasing a mini fridge so that, to the casual observer, the area looks like a bar and entertaining space.

"The laundry bar is genius! What kind of wood did you use on the slatted wall???" asked one viewer in the comments, referring to the wood flooring Galey used to add warmth and texture to the laundry bar wall, as well as ceilings throughout the home. (Unfortunately, Galey said, the specific flooring is only available in stores at Floor & Decor, but many of the products from the project are listed on the "Shop Episodes"section of her website, except for custom items like the coffee table).

The remaining photos in the post reveal before and afters of the main living area, the upstairs TV room/hangout space, and the outdoor patio. Galey defined the living and dining areas in the large open space by using ceiling beams as visual cues and by adding two built-in arches with shelves to create a focal point behind the dining table. On the patio, previously occupied by a trampoline, she added chic outdoor seating, privacy shrubs, and a custom fountain to block traffic noise.

The fan comments rolled in, praising the "masculine yet not too" bachelor pad. Galey had previously asked fans to watch episode three on HGTV live to give Home in a Heartbeat the best chance of being renewed for season two, and her avid followers heeded the call: "Kicked my son off his gaming on my TV to watch you. You deserve as many seasons as your ♥️ can take. Love from NYC!" said one, while others reported they tuned in live on multiple TVs.

Here are more highlights from the comments:

  • "I am mind blown at how good you are. I was calling all my family and friends to stream it live! We neeeeed a season 2! Keep going!"

  • "Tuned in live and recorded. I want to see more of your shows. I loved the dining room and the arches. I said a little prayer for you when I saw the stairs and those shoes with the circle heel [referring to Galey's high chunky heels]. 😬 😂"

  • "I am watching your show every week because it shows your genuine heart! I love your style and your work ethic @galeyalix ❤️❤️❤️❤️"

  • "Best episode yet!!! @hgtv give the people what they want #homeinaheartbeatseason2"

Galey later followed up with a second post with 10 more photos of the project, including additional details from the revamped spaces, plus "before" views of the patio and staircase nook (pre-laundry bar) and a funny behind-the-scenes photo of her crew.

We also gleaned an interesting insight about Galey's process in the comments section of the first post. If you have ever wondered how she fits her signature "surprises," such as the laundry bar and patio makeovers, into the renovation budget, we now have an answer: "My team gets paid and I don’t charge so that I can put that money into [the homeowner's] surprise space they don’t know I’m doing," Galey explained in answer to one viewer's inquiry.

Designing interiors to bring joy to others is only a weekend hobby for the finance exec. Another commenter chimed in that she should "give up the day job" to pursue her gift, but since Galey opts out of getting paid for her design services, it seems unlikely she'll be giving up her nine-to-five any time soon.
